Artist's Statement
Working with clay for me is a very enjoyable and satisfying experience. At this stage, my aim is to produce life-like sculptures primarily of animals. In order to do this, my first concern is with the pose. It must seem natural and not contrived. Proportion, and making sure the animal is anatomically correct are also vital. But I think it’s the details that I put into my work that really bring the subject to ‘life’.
I see myself as a sculptor, but I must also be a painter in order to give the piece its natural colouring thereby completing the image. I hope to bring joy and appreciation of wildlife to the viewer. The conservation of wildlife and their habitats is vitally important and if we don't take action now we may not get another chance to preserve and protect the amazing diversity of life on this planet.
